Week 4 : Symmetrical & Asymmetrical Balance

13 May

Symmetrical Balance

Symmetrical balance is an exact correspondence of form and constituent configuration on opposite sides of a dividing line or plane or about a center or an axis . Symmetric means something like well-proportioned, well-balanced, and symmetry denotes that sort of concordance of several parts by which they integrate into a whole .

Asymmetrical Balance

Asymmetrical balance art is when both sides of the central axis are not identical, yet appear to leave the same visual weight . It is a “felt” equilibrium or balance between the parts of a composition rather than actual . If the artist can fell, judge or estimate the various elements and visual weight, this should allow him/her to balance them as a whole . This results in a more interesting composition that will occur in the work . The use of asymmetry in design allows for more freedom of creativity, because there are unlimited arrangements that may be devised using asymmetrical balance .

We had a class exercise to be done .  I’ve made my designs simple and on bright colors so it could be easy to spot the differents …

Lateral Thinking

13 May

Lateral thinking is solving problems through an indirect and creative approach, using reasoning that is not immediately obvious and involving ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic . Edward de Bono divides thinking into two methods. He calls one ‘vertical thinking’ that is, using the processes of logic, the traditional-historical method. He calls the other ‘lateral thinking’, which involves disrupting an apparent sequence and arriving at the solution from another angle or “think outside the box”. Image

Graphic Design

13 May

Graphic design is a creative process, one most often involving a client and a designer, and traditionally completed in conjunction with producers of form.Graphic design also may be applied directly to websites, eliminating the need for an intermediary. Graphic design is undertaken to convey a specific message (or messages) to a targeted audience, usually from the client, known as the ‘brief’.

Week 3 : Class Exercise 2 (Mood board)

13 May

The exercise given was to do a mood board . A mood board is a type of collage that may consist of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition of the choice of the mood board creator . Designers and others use mood boards to develop their design concepts and to communicate to other members of the design team .

The title i chose was modern car : Image

This is an example mood board  that i have found on the net . Image

This was my first design . Mr Aaron asked me to do some changes on wordings and add some pictures of engine and wheels . Image

Week 3 : Lecture (Elements of Design)

13 May

Hello guys , we have learnt about elements of design in our class . We have been told to do a research on elements of design and post it in our blog . So here is my research :

Design elements are the basic units of a painting, drawing, design or other visual piece and include :

Line

>A line is a fundamental mark or stroke used in drawing in which the length is longer than the width .

>Two connected points form a line and every line has a length, width, and direction if it is straight .graphics1

Color

>Color can play a large role in the elements of design with the color wheel being used as a tool, and color theory providing a body of practical guidance to color mixing and the visual impacts of specific color combination . colour-wheel

Shape

>A shape is defined as an area that stands out from the space next to or around it due to a defined or implied boundary, or because of differences of value, color, or texture .

>All objects are composed of shapes and all other ‘Elements of Design’ are shapes in some way . shapespieces

Texture

>The tree’s visual texture is represented here in this image .

>Meaning the way a surface feels or is perceived to feel .

>Texture can be added to attract or repel interest to an element, depending on the pleasantness of the texture . textures

Space

>In design, space is concerned with the area deep within the moment of designated design, the design will take place on .

>For a two-dimensional design space concerns creating the illusion of a third dimension on a flat surface . Victor Vasarely positive negative space pic

Value

>lightness or darkness of a color .

>The more white you add to a color or hue, the lighter the value .

>When you add white to lighten a color, it is called a tint .

>The more black you add to a color, the darker the value .

>When you add black to a color to darken it, the resultant color is then called a shade .

>If you add gray to a color, it results in a tone .

Week 2 : Class Exercise (DOODLES)

13 May

Hello everyone this is my e-journal for my 2 Dimensional Design class . We have learnt about doodle’s . Basicly doodle is an unfocused or unconcious drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied . Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes . Our class exercise was to do a dooddle drawing in our name to show what represents us .Image

This is my simple doodle drawing . Actually this was my first time doodling . The sharp edging shows that i’m a straight foward person and the rest repsenting my interests and hobbies . It’s not perfect but i’ve tried my best and i wil do better next time . . .
